After a settlement: how the money reaches you
Short answer
Timing depends on your state's rules.
- In New Jersey, the insurer must pay within 10 working days of the agreement or of your meeting its conditions, whichever is later.
- With a lawyer, the money goes into a trust account first, and your lawyer must promptly pay your share with a signed closing statement.
